On Tuesday, former Senate Chief Whip Ali Ndume publicly apologized to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for embarrassing President Bola Tinubu during a live television interview.

This apology came a month after Ndume was removed from his position following his comments on Arise TV, where he stated that Tinubu was unaware of the hardships faced by Nigerians.

Ndume was replaced by Senator Tahir Monguno of Borno North, following a directive from the APC’s National Chairman, Umar Ganduje, and National Secretary, Senator Bashir Ajibola.

After a two-hour closed-door meeting with the party’s National Working Committee in Abuja, Ndume expressed regret for not consulting the party before his public comments, though he stood by his statements. He emphasized that his remarks were made out of patriotism and should have been addressed within the party.

When asked about his membership status, Ndume denied any expulsion, reaffirming his commitment to the party. He also dismissed the need to apologize directly to President Tinubu or the Senate, stating that his comments were not meant as an insult.

APC National Chairman Ganduje confirmed Ndume’s apology and mentioned that the party plans to request the Senate leadership to reconsider Ndume’s removal as Chief Whip. Ganduje emphasized that the issue was resolved within the party, underscoring the APC’s role as a unified family.
