The Edo State Police Command has detained a 14-year-old boy accused of molesting a six-year-old girl in Sobe, a community within Owan West Local Government Area. The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by the victim's father.
According to SP Moses Yamu, the Police Public Relations Officer, the case has been handed over to the state’s Criminal Investigation Department for further action.
The incident reportedly occurred when the young suspect lured the victim into a house and assaulted her. The victim's father initially reported the crime to the police but later sought to withdraw the complaint after reaching an agreement with the suspect’s family to resolve the issue privately.
The decision to settle the matter outside the legal system was made following discussions between the two families.
