In a disturbing incident, gunmen abducted eight people during a traditional Ozo title-taking ceremony in Amakor village, Nanka, located in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The attack occurred on Wednesday evening, just two days before another assault on the state's Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Patrick Agha Mba, his wife, and his aide.

The Ozo title-taking is a significant cultural event in Igbo tradition, where men are honored as custodians of their community's customs. The ceremony was violently interrupted when armed men, some with masked faces, stormed the venue. According to eyewitness Emmanuel Ilo, the attackers, accompanied by local community members, began to scatter the gathering without warning, brutally assaulting participants and organizers.

Despite the presence of police officers at the event, the attackers overpowered them, leaving the crowd defenseless. The gunmen then abducted eight individuals, including the village Chairperson, Obinna Ilo, and others such as Emerie Ilo, Sam Eminike, and Asina Okafor. The victims were forced into waiting vehicles and driven to an unknown location.

In addition to the kidnappings, 12 others were injured in the attack, while several attendees who managed to escape have since gone into hiding. The whereabouts of the abducted individuals remain unknown, as their families have not received any communication from the kidnappers.

When contacted, the police spokesperson in Anambra State, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that no official report of the incident had been received. The absence of police acknowledgment adds to the growing concern about security in the region, as similar violent incidents continue to plague the area.

This latest attack highlights the escalating insecurity in Anambra State, raising alarm among residents and underscoring the need for increased vigilance and security measures.
