Residents of Moriki town in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State have managed to negotiate a reduction in ransom demanded by notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, lowering it from N50 million to N30 million. The payment is reportedly in compensation for the killing of Turji’s cows by the commander of an army base stationed in Moriki.
The community has been given until Wednesday to raise the funds, with each family head required to contribute N10,000, while unmarried adults must pay N2,000. Despite warnings from the army commander to avoid paying the ransom and his promise to avoid future harm to Turji's animals, the villagers fear retaliation if the payment is not made.
According to *Daily Post*, about fifteen local politicians and social activists are still being held hostage by Turji’s group, despite the presence of soldiers in the area. The villagers worry that failure to meet the demand could result in further attacks.
