
Nigerian music sensation and philanthropist, Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has become the first Nigerian to host an opening session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). DJ Cuppy moderated the 2024 UNGA Youth Action Day, themed “The Summit of the Future – Youth Actions Day,” held at the UN headquarters in New York.
Her impactful keynote address electrified the Assembly, with attendees breaking into chants during her speech, as seen in a video posted online. Following her address, DJ Cuppy wowed the audience with a remarkable musical performance that left a lasting impression.
The historic session, which marked the largest youth gathering in UN history, saw prominent attendees, including H.E. José Maria Neves, President of Cabo Verde, and Felipe Paullier, Assistant Secretary General for Youth Affairs. As a vocal youth advocate, Cuppy has used her platform to inspire millions, and her foundation is committed to fostering a sustainable and inclusive society by empowering and educating young people.
During the event, Cuppy hinted at her future political ambitions, expressing her desire to become Nigeria’s first female president. Her remark drew a supportive response from UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed, who quipped, “You told me you wanted to be Nigeria’s first female president, and what did I say? After me.”
The exchange between Cuppy and Amina underscores the growing momentum for women's leadership in Nigeria. Cuppy used the platform to encourage youth to take action on global issues, reinforcing her commitment to advocating for change.
