Popular Nigerian singer Charles Chibuezechukwu, widely known as Crayon, has opened up about his harrowing experience with drug addiction, which nearly cost him his life and led to his hospitalization at a psychiatric facility.

In a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the "Ngozi" hitmaker recalled a particularly disturbing episode during his battle with substance abuse. Crayon revealed that his colleague, fellow Mavin Records artist Rema, played a crucial role in helping him through the ordeal.

Recalling the incident, Crayon said, "One day, my manager saw me and was shocked by my condition. I told him I had only smoked weed, but soon after, I began to act erratically. I walked barefoot down the street to Mavin studio."

The singer described how the situation escalated when he reached the studio. "I sat in front of the gate, took off my shirt, and smashed my iPhone. Calls started flooding in—Rema, BabyFresy, everyone was asking what was wrong. I told them I was just tired."

Rema quickly rushed to the scene, prepared to help his friend. "Rema drove over with a stick, ready to fight. I was lying on his lap, and he told me, 'Bro, trust me, once you pass this stage, you will come out great because this is the final battle you're about to fight.'"

The episode took a serious turn when Crayon almost leaped out of a moving vehicle, describing the experience as "similar to Mohbad's situation." He was eventually taken to a psychiatric hospital in Lekki, where he received treatment.

Following his recovery, Crayon expressed gratitude for the support he received, noting how lucky he felt that no one captured the incident on video, which could have harmed his career. "If someone had recorded me during that episode, it would have messed with my confidence, my career, and everything," he said.

The singer shared that after his stay at the psychiatric hospital, he visited Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy's home, marking the start of his journey to recovery.
