
The Chinese Embassy in Abuja held a grand celebration on Friday to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC). This significant event, reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), commemorates a pivotal moment in China’s history, following the conclusion of the Chinese Civil War and the establishment of the PRC by Mao Zedong on October 1, 1949.
In his remarks, China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, praised the remarkable progress China has made over the past three-quarters of a century, emphasizing the transformation achieved under the leadership of the Communist Party. “Over the past 75 years, China has evolved from poverty to prosperity. We’ve lifted nearly 100 million people out of poverty and achieved moderate prosperity,” Yu stated.
The ambassador also highlighted China’s significant contributions to global economic growth, noting an impressive average growth rate of over 30 percent from 2013 to 2023.
During the event, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen extended his congratulations to China on this momentous occasion. He reiterated Nigeria's commitment to strengthening cooperation with China and announced plans for enhanced parliamentary engagement through the China-Nigeria Friendship Group.
The celebration featured vibrant cultural performances by the Zhengzhou Kungfu group and celebrated Quju and Yuju opera artists, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of China and promoting a spirit of harmony and cooperation between the two nations.
