On Saturday, October 5, 2024, a group of Nigerian and foreign students gathered outside the Nigerian High Commission in London to express their displeasure with the administration of President Bola Tinubu. The demonstrators, who included both Black and White students, called for the reversal of what they described as "anti-poor policies" and demanded the release of individuals arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests in Nigeria.
The protest was led by a socialist student group, operating under the banner ‘Fight for Socialism’. The participants held placards with bold messages such as "Drop all charges and release protesters" and "Reverse all anti-poor policies."
A video shared by SaharaReporters captured the protesters chanting slogans targeting President Tinubu, repeatedly yelling, “When I say Tinubu, you say thief,” as they voiced their grievances over the treatment of protesters back in Nigeria.
The protestors' main demands focused on the release of detained activists and the repeal of policies they believe disproportionately harm the nation’s poorest citizens. The demonstration took place outside the High Commission building located at WC2N 5BX, London.
Their chant echoed through the streets:
