Kazim Adeoti, husband of actress Mercy Aigbe, has addressed the backlash over his absence at the recent 50th birthday celebration of his first wife, Olufunsho Adeoti, which took place in the United States.
Social media users criticized Kazim for not publicly acknowledging Olufunsho's milestone, especially given the lavish nature of the event. However, in a statement shared on his social media, Kazim clarified that his absence was not due to a lack of support but rather a direct request from Olufunsho herself.
“In light of the recent discussions regarding Mrs. Olufunsho Adeoti’s 50th birthday celebration, I feel compelled to clarify the circumstances surrounding my absence,” Kazim began. He explained that Olufunsho had explicitly told him not to attend her birthday party. “She expressed her wish for me not to be present. I confirmed this in front of our children, and her response was consistent — she said NO.”
Kazim emphasized that, despite the painful nature of her request, he chose to respect her wishes. “I did not want to put myself in a position of embarrassment by attending an event where the celebrant specifically requested my absence. Instead, I supported her both morally and financially to ensure the party's success.”
He also mentioned that he encouraged family and friends in the U.S. to celebrate Olufunsho’s special day. “I celebrated her birthday in private and she acknowledged my wishes pleasantly,” he added.
Kazim reaffirmed that Olufunsho remains an essential part of his life, being the mother of their four children. He urged the public, particularly on social media, to refrain from making unfounded comments about his family. “If you truly care about us, please allow peace to prevail. Remember, social media is not real life,” he concluded.
Kazim’s statement sheds light on the complexities of family dynamics in the public eye and calls for understanding and respect from the community.
