Former militant leader Asari Dokubo has once again voiced serious accusations against the Nigerian military, claiming that its personnel are deeply involved in oil bunkering operations in the Niger Delta. In a recent press statement, Dokubo alleged that it is not the Ijaw or Ogoni ethnic groups, who are often blamed for the illegal activities, but rather soldiers who orchestrate and profit from the oil theft in the region.

According to Dokubo, the military's involvement in these illicit operations is an open secret, and they play a dominant role in ensuring the continuation of oil bunkering. His claims highlight the ongoing issue of corruption and illegal oil extraction, which has plagued the Niger Delta for years, contributing to environmental degradation and loss of revenue for the Nigerian government.

"Since they don’t want us to keep secrets, we won’t keep it," Dokubo said in a recent live session.

He claimed that President Bola Tinubu had asked him to speak to the press when he talked about the involvement of military personnel in oil theft for the first time.

According to Dokubo, the military allegedly exploits the local population by using them as intermediaries in these illegal activities, giving them only a small share of the profits.

"It is not the Ijaws, Ogonis, or any other ethnic group behind the oil bunkering, but soldiers who use them and give them peanuts," he claimed.
