The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored the national grid following its collapse at approximately 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, October 19. The grid failure was attributed to an explosion at the bus section of a current transformer at the 330-kilovolt (kV) Jebba transmission substation in Niger State.
In a statement signed by TCN's General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company explained that the explosion activated a protection system, which promptly disconnected the busbars to contain the damage and prevent a fire outbreak.
It further explained that swift action by engineers at the Jebba substation isolated the faulty transformer and reconfigured the busbar arrangement, allowing power supply to be restored to the station and other parts of the grid.
This latest collapse marks the third grid failure in a week and the eighth recorded this year.
