
An attempt by gunmen to kidnap family members of the Abuja Bureau Chief of the Tribune Newspaper, Dr Leon Usigbe was reportedly thwarted by the quick intervention of the anti-kidnapping squad.
The home of the editor was said to have been invaded by gunmen around 12:50 am shooting sporadically and attempting to break in to carry out their nefarious activities.
The editor’s home located in an area within a boundary community of Nasarawa State is said to have been attacked several times by kidnappers.
Sources around the scene of the incident have it that luck ran out of the assailants when the anti-kidnapping squad of the Military, arrived in the area.
Repelling the assailants was not without resistance, as the gunmen were alleged to have wounded some of the soldiers.
It was learnt that though nobody was kidnapped from the editor’s family, occupants of the house were left terrified.
Usigbe was said to be away from home at the time of the attack, but the wife and children who were present were said to be unhurt.
Confirming the attack, the Nasarawa State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Rahman Nansel, said, “Our anti-kidnapping squad repelled the attack”
