Notwithstanding Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo’s order that people in the state should open their shops and business premises on Mondays; residents of the state yesterday massively complied with the stay-athome order declared by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the state.

Economic activities were crippled mainly in Nnewi, Onitsha and the state capital city, Awka. In these cities and towns, school children were seen turned back from their schools. The children who went to school yesterday were asked to go back following the stay-at-home order.

Our correspondent who visited Nnewi discovered that virtually all the business offices and shops were under lock and key. All the banks, shops and private establishments were shut for fear of being attacked.

In Awka, most of the shops were under lock and key, while vehicles were off the roads leaving few individuals with one or two businesses to trek to go for their engagements.

Mr Eselu Udoye, a block factory owner, said he decided not to open because of the fear of being attacked. He said people were being anxious, hence the government refused to provide adequate security to boost confidence to operate without fear.

One Okada rider in Nnewi, Maduka Nwobi, said it is only a mad man that would venture to enter the road when there is security around on days like this.
