Tragedy struck in Osholo, a community in Uwanno Kingdom, Etsako East Local Government Area, as a drummer identified as HC Ikhamateh Akhumhele was reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers. The incident, which has left residents shaken, occurred on Saturday evening along Iviukwe Road.
Speaking on the incident, Edo State Police Command spokesperson SP Moses Yamu confirmed that the police received the report on Saturday and have since taken steps to address the situation. “We’re in talks with community leaders regarding this unfortunate incident. Tactical teams have been deployed to the scene and surrounding areas in pursuit of the suspects,” Yamu said, adding that nearby police divisions are also on high alert.
Eyewitnesses reported that the drummer was killed between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., though details remain scarce. Community members expressed concern over the recent absence of police in Agenebode, the region’s administrative headquarters, following an attack on the local police station. That station was recently set ablaze by angry youths protesting the alleged kidnapping and killing of a young man, identified as Junior.
SP Yamu urged the public to assist with any information that may lead to the arrest of those responsible, emphasizing the command’s commitment to restoring security and safety in the area.
