The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully dismantled a major drug syndicate with the arrest of 58-year-old Tianzhen Yen, a Chinese national and the leader of an international trafficking ring. Yen, also known by his alias “Jackie,” was apprehended in the Ikeja area of Lagos State on November 21, 2024, following a targeted operation by the agency’s operatives.
According to a statement released by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, Yen was taken into custody at the MC Hotel behind Alade Market, located on Allen Avenue in Ikeja. A search of his hotel room uncovered 4.3 grams of cocaine, 1 gram of methamphetamine, two electronic weighing scales, and a Chinese National Identification Number card.
The operation began earlier that week when officers from the Seme Special Area Command intercepted a 40-year-old suspect, Yakubu Emmanuel Mark, at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme expressway. Mark was traveling in a commercial bus en route to Ghana when authorities found 750 grams of cocaine in his possession. Following his arrest, the NDLEA launched a follow-up operation that led them to Yen, who was identified as the mastermind behind the trans-border drug trafficking syndicate.
The discovery of the drugs in Yen’s hotel room, along with his arrest, marks a significant victory for the NDLEA in their ongoing efforts to combat international drug trafficking and curb the influx of illicit substances into Nigeria.
