The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully intercepted smuggled Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), valued at ₦18.5 million, in Adamawa State.
This was disclosed by Mr. H.K. Ejibunu, the national coordinator of the customs’ special operation unit, "Operation Whirlwind," during a press briefing in Yola on Wednesday.
Alongside the smuggled PMS, the operation also resulted in the seizure of five vehicles and two motorcycles.
The interceptions were carried out along the Nigeria-Cameroon border in Adamawa and Taraba states.
The seizures were made over the past two months as part of intensified efforts to curb smuggling activities.
Mr. Ejibunu emphasized the commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to tackling smuggling, particularly in border regions, to safeguard Nigeria’s economy and ensure compliance with trade regulations.
Ejibunu said that the service within the period under review also intercepted 14 fuel tankers loaded with PMS meant to be smuggled.
“Out of the 14 fuel tankers intercepted, 13 were handed over to NMDPRA in Yola (Adamawa), while one to NMDPRA in Taraba State for continued inter-agency action.
“It will interest you to know that the team equally arrested a suspect in connection to smuggling activities and he is currently facing prosecution,” he said.
