A major blow has been dealt to Boko Haram as Commander Abubakar Shekau and four of his associates were killed in a fierce gun battle with Nigerian troops in Yobe State. The incident took place during a clash between Boko Haram insurgents and military forces operating under Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai.
The clash occurred late at night, around 11:00 p.m., when Boko Haram terrorists attempted to attack the Sabon Fagi community in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area. However, the troops, with the support of local vigilantes, successfully repelled the assault, engaging the insurgents with superior firepower and forcing them to retreat.
In the aftermath, several weapons were recovered from the insurgents, securing a significant victory for the Nigerian military. Shekau, who was a key figure in the terror group and a staunch admirer of the late Boko Haram leader of the same name, was reportedly named after the notorious leader by his father, reflecting his deep loyalty to the group.
The Nigerian military continues to intensify efforts to dismantle the insurgent group in the northeast, bolstering security in the region.
