A Chief Magistrate Court in Osogbo has ordered the remand of two suspects, 41-year-old Wale Sodiq and 45-year-old Abiodun Olohunwa, at the Ilesa Correctional Center following charges of conspiracy, burglary, and theft in Osun State.
The suspects were arraigned by the Osun Amotekun Corps through the state’s Attorney General. They face three charges, including conspiracy and theft, under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, which are punishable offenses.
According to a statement from the Osun Amotekun Corps, the charges stem from an incident in which the suspects were apprehended after burglarizing a residence in the Ogo-Oluwa Area, Zone 2, Ede. Although the suspects initially fled the scene, Amotekun operatives successfully tracked them to their hideout, where stolen items were recovered. These included five cartons of tiles, five bags of Dangote cement, and a tiles cutting machine, valued at N186,000.
The suspects admitted to their involvement in the crime and revealed that this was not their first offense. They also confessed to evading arrest in previous thefts.
The stolen goods were taken from an uncompleted building, and the suspects are accused of violating Sections 516A and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 2, Law of Osun State, 2022.
Both Sodiq and Olohunwa pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit the crime before Presiding Magistrate Daramola. The court has set the next hearing date for January 24, 2025.
