A Nigerian man has shared a deeply personal account of his decision to marry a Senegalese woman instead of a Nigerian, detailing the struggles he faced navigating relationships as an immigrant in the United States.

The man, who identified himself as Odogwu Nwoke, explained in a viral social media post that his challenges began upon arriving in the U.S., where he initially stayed with a group of Nigerian friends. His experiences with Nigerian women, he said, were marred by assumptions and misunderstandings about his intentions.

According to Odogwu, many women he encountered dismissed him because he lacked permanent residency. One incident involved a woman openly rejecting his approach, saying, "You no go use me get paper," implying he sought a relationship for immigration benefits rather than genuine affection.

Another encounter with a woman named Ijeoma left him equally disheartened. When he called to arrange a meeting, her immediate demand was for a shopping trip, followed by a meal. "I just dropped the call," he said, recounting how she later mocked him to mutual acquaintances, calling him naive.

Odogwu said he faced similar treatment repeatedly. At a party, he met another woman, Bisi, who initially seemed interested but changed her demeanor upon learning he wasn’t an American citizen. "Are you an American?" she asked before abruptly leaving the conversation when he said no.

Over time, his frustrations grew. He claimed his attempts to date Nigerian women in the U.S. were frequently met with financial demands or questions about his material possessions, such as his car. "Every time I made an attempt, I was reminded of my lack of papers or asked for money," he lamented.

A turning point came during a visit to a local grocery store, where he met a kind Latina woman. Her warmth and interest in his culture starkly contrasted with his previous experiences. This encounter, he said, opened his mind to relationships beyond his Nigerian community.

Eventually, Odogwu found love with a Senegalese woman, whose simplicity and understanding resonated with him. While reflecting on his journey, he emphasized that his choice was shaped by his experiences and the values he found in his partner.

His story has sparked mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians sympathizing with his plight while others criticized his generalizations about Nigerian women. The discussion has reignited debates on cultural expectations, relationships, and the challenges of navigating love as an immigrant.

Nigeria women are useless, they are most times too overated but if you come closer to them you will find out how useless and greedy they are, it will take much perseverance to find few that are well trained and not intoxicated with materialism

You want them to marry you, an undocumented illegal immigrant who might be deported when caught by the authorities? Nah! I am with them 100%. NGRN women are astute and smart. They know what they don't want in their lives. Hat off to them.
