Armed terrorists launched a brutal assault on Kungurki village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, leaving one elderly man dead and abducting 13 people, including a two-month-old baby and the child’s mother.
The attack, which occurred under the cover of darkness, was disclosed on Sunday by counterterrorism expert Zagazola Makama in a post on his X handle. Makama, citing intelligence sources, revealed that the assailants unleashed chaos by firing sporadically to terrify residents before rounding up their victims.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers looted several shops, stealing food items, household supplies, and other valuables before retreating into the forest. “It was a horrifying experience. They took women and children, and an elderly man was killed in cold blood,” a local resident recounted.
The terrorists’ swift and coordinated attack has further exacerbated fears in the region, which has been plagued by escalating violence and kidnappings in recent years.
The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in Zamfara State, where rural communities remain vulnerable to such raids. Calls for heightened security measures and a more robust response to the activities of armed groups continue to grow among residents and stakeholders.
Authorities have yet to comment on the incident, and the fate of the abductees remains uncertain as efforts to locate and rescue them are expected to be underway.
