Lagos State Commissioner for Water and Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, has clarified that the government has not banned sachet water (commonly called "pure water") in the state and has no intention to do so.
This statement comes in response to a viral video showing a NAFDAC (National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control) official bursting sachets of water during what appeared to be a regulatory exercise.
Wahab emphasized that the state government supports affordable and safe drinking water for residents and recognizes the role sachet water plays in meeting this need. He assured the public that the incident in the video does not represent a government ban but may relate to NAFDAC's efforts to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
The commissioner urged residents to remain calm and avoid misinformation while highlighting the importance of consuming only certified and regulated drinking water.
