Peter Ukaegbu, a grieving Nigerian man, has taken to social media to express his sorrow over the tragic deaths of his wife, Emmanuella Chizoba, and their daughter, Onyinyechi Prisca, who perished in a stampede at Christ the King Cathedral (CKC) in Aba, Abia State.

The devastating incident occurred during the annual Christ the King procession on Sunday, November 25, 2024, leaving five worshippers dead and around 13 children hospitalized. Reports suggest the stampede was triggered by overcrowding, with allegations that security personnel locked the church gates, exacerbating the chaos.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Ukaegbu shared the pain of losing his loved ones just days before their planned 10th wedding anniversary celebration in Port Harcourt on November 30.

“We would have been in Port Harcourt celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary today as we planned up to November 23,” he wrote. “You woke up Sunday morning with my adorable daughter, cooked, bathed the children, and went to Corpus Christi, only for me to be told that my wife and daughter are no more.”

Ukaegbu described the tragedy as devastating, leaving him in shock and consumed by fear. He lamented the cruel irony of losing his wife and daughter at the same church where he and Emmanuella were married.

“It is unfortunate that the venue where you wedded was the same venue that consumed you and your daughter. May this affliction never rise for the second time. RELIGION HAS HAPPENED TO ME,” he said.

The heartbroken father bid farewell to his wife and daughter, praying for their souls to rest in peace.

“Good night, my LOVE, Emmanuella Chizoba Peter Ukaegbu. Good night, Onyinyechi Prisca Ukaegbu (Ada Daddy Ya).”

The tragic event has cast a shadow over the church community, prompting calls for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident to prevent future occurrences.

Accept my condolences, but don't blame religion. An over filled church does not mean that God is there. Avoid crowdy places in the name of church. Where 2 or 3 are gathered, God is also there.
