The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 22-year-old suspect, Idris Ibrahim Kayode, for allegedly vandalizing armoured cables used to power streetlights at the University of Ilorin.
Kayode, a private security guard employed at the university, was apprehended on Wednesday at approximately 1:33 AM by vigilant local residents. The suspect was caught in the act of damaging the cables within the university’s premises.
According to the NSCDC spokesperson, Ayoola Michael Shola, the suspect was immediately handed over to the corps for further investigation.
Dr. Umar Muhammed, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, confirmed the arrest and ordered an in-depth investigation into the incident. He also emphasized that once investigations are completed, the suspect will be formally charged in court.
In light of the arrest, Dr. Umar urged the people of Kwara State to collaborate with the NSCDC and other security agencies in their efforts to eliminate criminal activities. He encouraged residents to report any suspicious actions to the nearest security authority to ensure a safer community.
