Nigerian activist Abiodun Olamide Thomas, popularly known as "Horlarmidey Africano," has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force after raising concerns over police misconduct.
According to reports from SaharaReporters, Thomas had previously voiced fears for her safety, accusing ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer, of targeting her due to her activism.
On Friday, December 13, sources revealed that Thomas was taken from her residence in the Somolu area of Lagos after police detained her brother the day before in an effort to locate her. The police allegedly "abducted" Thomas and transported her first to the Alade police station before transferring her to the State Command in Ikeja, where she is currently in custody.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest, while her brother was reportedly released after being used as leverage during the operation. The arrest has raised concerns over the treatment of activists who challenge the police force.
