Kemi Badenoch, a prominent UK politician and member of the Conservative Party, has once again drawn attention with her comments about Nigeria, this time accusing the country’s police of theft and corruption.

In a statement that has sparked widespread discussion, Badenoch claimed,
Quote
*“The police in Nigeria would rob us. The police stole my brother’s shoes and his watch. It’s a very poor country, so people do all sorts of things.”*

Interviewer exclaimed in shock.
Quote
“They took his shoe and his watch?” Kemi continued: “It’s a very poor country. People do all sorts of things. So, giving people a gun is just a license to intimidate. But that’s not just the problem. That is not the bar we should use for the British Police. When I was burgled, for example, the police were there. They were helpful before they eventually caught the person. This was in 2004, that was 20 years ago.”
Her remarks, which appear to highlight systemic issues in Nigeria, have been met with mixed reactions. While some see it as an honest critique of the challenges facing the Nigerian police force, others view it as an unfair generalization that paints the country in a negative light.

Badenoch’s comments follow previous criticisms she has made about Nigeria, raising questions about her perspective on her country of heritage. Public discourse continues as Nigerians at home and abroad weigh in on her portrayal of the nation's socio-economic struggles.

First, not all Nigerian police are criminals, you still have good ones. Secondly, she's right, you have those that are even worse than thieves, if you don't give them what what they want they can easily shoot you dead and frame your corpse, yes I have family and friends who have been victims of forced extortion by the police. Thirdly, who told her Nigeria is poor??? Are you kidding me?? There are very few countries in this world that have the resources Nigeria have, Nigeria is not poor, Nigeria is just poor at leadership.

She's entirely right, 105%. Nigeria with her abundance of resources remain the world's poverty capital. The minimum wage in kenya is 10 times that of Nigeria and yet the inflation rate is astronomical. Give an under paid person assault riffles, and he will easily become an armed robber, that is Nigeria !!
