Super Eagles and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has etched his name in history by clinching the 2024 CAF African Footballer of the Year award.
The 27-year-old was honored at a glittering ceremony held at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday.
Lookman triumphed over formidable contenders, including Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/PSG), Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast/Brighton), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea/Borussia Dortmund), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns), to secure the prestigious title.
Kicking off his acceptance speech, Ademola Lookman gave his first words in Yoruba, his native language, to express heartfelt gratitude to Nigerians for their support.
“E kaale Nigeria, mo n kin gbogbo yin. E se, modupe”
He said, “Nigeria! Mo ki gbogbo yin [I greet you all]. E she [Thank you]. Mo dupe [I am grateful].”
