The Delta State Police Command has apprehended five individuals involved in the theft of a luxury vehicle owned by the logistics company, Young Shall Grow Motors. The suspects are accused of planning to dismantle and sell the vehicle within Delta State.

In a media briefing on Friday, the police spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, described the case as "unique" due to the insider knowledge that led to the theft. One of the suspects, a former panel beater at Young Shall Grow, allegedly used his familiarity with the company’s security practices to carry out the crime. According to Bright, the former employee knew the vehicle was often left unlocked with the key in the ignition and had been monitoring its parking location.

After taking the vehicle from Aba, Abia State, the suspect contacted an accomplice to transport it to Warri, Delta State, where they planned to sell it to scrap dealers. However, their plan was foiled thanks to proactive measures by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ekpan, who had earlier warned local scrap dealers not to purchase vehicles without proper documentation.

When the dealers requested proper receipts and vehicle details, the suspects' intentions became suspicious, prompting the police to intervene. The vehicle was intercepted in a forested area where the thieves intended to dismantle it.

SP Bright revealed that during questioning, Michael Odubo, one of the arrested suspects, admitted to his involvement, stating that he planned to sell the vehicle for ₦5 million, despite the vehicle’s engine alone being valued at ₦13 million. He also emphasized the futility of criminal actions, urging the public to avoid illegal means of making money.

The five suspects have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing as the police continue to gather evidence. SP Bright praised the DPO for his foresight in preventing the vehicle from being sold and encouraged vehicle owners to take better security measures to avoid similar incidents.

The suspects are set to face charges, with further legal proceedings to follow.
