The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action by shutting down eight rice shops and a warehouse in Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, for the production and distribution of counterfeit rice. The raid, which took place earlier this week, resulted in the seizure of over 1,600 bags of fake rice valued at approximately ₦5 billion.

In a statement shared on social media, NAFDAC revealed that the counterfeit rice had been repackaged in popular branded bags such as Big Bull, Royal Stallion, and Tomato Aposo, with the intent to mislead consumers. Authorities also found empty branded rice bags at the facility, further confirming the illegal activity.

The Director in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Kenneth Azikiwe, condemned the counterfeiters' actions and warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone involved in such practices. Azikiwe emphasized that the suspects arrested during the operation would be prosecuted in order to deter future offenders.
