Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) arrested two suspected gunrunners in Bokkos Town, Plateau State, during a covert operation on Friday. The suspects were caught attempting to purchase an AK-47 rifle for ₦1.45 million at a hideout in the White House Hotel.
The suspects, identified as 31-year-old Kenneth Mayas and 60-year-old Bulus Yilfo, both hail from Forop District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The sting operation, which disrupted the illegal arms deal, was confirmed by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama through a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.
During the operation, security personnel recovered the ₦1.45 million cash intended for the firearm purchase. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects are part of a larger criminal network involved in gunrunning and related illegal activities.
"The suspects and the recovered cash are currently in custody for interrogation," a source within the operation revealed. "Efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the syndicate connected to the illegal arms trade."
This arrest highlights ongoing efforts by security forces to tackle arms trafficking and enhance safety in Plateau State and the surrounding region. Authorities remain vigilant in dismantling criminal networks that threaten public security.
