
The Katsina State Police Command has thwarted a kidnapping attempt by armed bandits in Jibia Local Government Area, rescuing 10 victims. The operation, which occurred on the evening of December 24, 2024, underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region.
According to the police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the bandits ambushed a commercial vehicle at Kwanar Makera along the Katsina-Magama Jibia road, firing sporadically in an effort to abduct its occupants. Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of operatives to the scene.
The officers engaged the assailants in a fierce gunfight, successfully rescuing all 10 victims. Four of the passengers sustained injuries in the attack and were rushed to the hospital, but tragically, two later succumbed to their wounds.
“On December 24, 2024, at about 8:30 p.m., suspected armed bandits attacked a commercial vehicle at Kwanar Makera along the Katsina-Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA, attempting to kidnap 10 occupants of the vehicle,” Aliyu stated.
He confirmed that efforts are underway to track down the fleeing bandits, adding that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, commended the officers involved for their bravery and swift action. He urged them to maintain their commitment to duty and called on the public to provide information about criminal activities to aid law enforcement efforts.
The incident highlights the resilience of security forces in combating banditry but also serves as a grim reminder of the persistent threat posed by armed groups in the region.
