The Ogun State Police Command has detained four individuals linked to theft and assault incidents in the Odeda and Ajuwon communities.
In a statement released on Wednesday, police operatives confirmed the arrest of three suspects on Tuesday for alleged theft and violent altercations. The suspects, identified as Joseph Ogu, Sunday Jeremiah, Isikilu Azeez, and Faruq Azeez, were apprehended in separate operations.
Motorbike Theft in Ajuwon
Command spokesperson Omolola Odutola revealed that a commercial biker, Adebiyi Philip, had parked his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (registration number TRE 228 WZ) at Alapara Junction while scouting for passengers. Upon returning, Philip discovered the bike was missing.
After an extensive search, the motorcycle was found with 33-year-old Joseph Ogu, who was caught tampering with its security system. Ogu was immediately detained, and the motorcycle recovered. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Kolanut Theft Turns Violent in Odeda
In Iyana-Efon Kila, Odeda Local Government Area, a member of the Nigeria Hunter and Safety Group, Dele Sosanya, reported multiple thefts of kolanut seeds from his farm by a suspect known as Lati. On Christmas Eve, police located Lati in the community, but an attempted arrest escalated into violence.
During the confrontation, two accomplices, Isikilu Azeez and Faruq Azeez, allegedly attacked security operative Segun Owolabi with a machete, causing severe injuries. A patrol team intervened, apprehending Isikilu and Faruq, while Lati fled. Efforts are ongoing to capture the fugitive, Odutola confirmed.
Gas Cylinder Theft at School
In another case, the Odeda Division reported the arrest of 35-year-old Sunday Jeremiah, who was handed over to the police by the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps. Jeremiah was caught with a gas cylinder stolen from Ijemo Secondary School.
Detectives visited the school and confirmed the theft, notifying the school principal. The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue.
Police Commitment to Justice
Odutola reassured the public that all cases are under active investigation, with efforts intensified to ensure justice. "We are committed to bringing these perpetrators to book and maintaining peace in our communities," she stated.
The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement to tackle criminal activities in Ogun State.
