The lifeless body of an unidentified man was discovered under the Okefia Bridge on Friday, raising concerns about security and safety in the area.

The circumstances surrounding the man’s death remain shrouded in mystery, but eyewitnesses reported that the deceased was found partially unclothed. A trader in the vicinity, identified as Chibuzor, revealed that the body was first noticed around midday, prompting residents to alert authorities.

Responding swiftly, personnel from the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrived at the scene to commence investigations. They were later joined by officials from Osogbo West Local Government, who collaborated to remove the body from the location. A bag containing clothes was reportedly found near the corpse, potentially offering clues to the ongoing investigation.

Adeleke Kehinde, spokesperson for the NSCDC Osun Command, confirmed the discovery and emphasized that efforts were underway to unravel the circumstances leading to the man’s death. “Today, December 27, the lifeless body of an elderly man was discovered under the Okefia Bridge. The incident was promptly reported to the Water and Environmental Sanitation Department of Osogbo West LCDA, and arrangements were made to evacuate the body to prevent further decomposition,” Kehinde stated.

The unsettling discovery has prompted calls for enhanced security measures around Osogbo’s flyovers. On Saturday, Lamina Kamiludeen Omotoyosi, Executive Director of the World Institute of Peace (WIP), issued a statement urging the Osun State Government and Police Command to prioritize the safety of these structures.

“The discovery of a lifeless body under the Okefia Bridge is alarming,” Omotoyosi said. “If left unchecked, these flyovers could become havens for criminal activities. Ensuring the security of these areas will not only deter crimes but also reassure residents of their safety.”

Residents and stakeholders now await further updates from authorities, hoping for a resolution to the tragic incident and stronger security measures to prevent future occurrences.
