A 23-year-old nursing mother, Ella Samuel, has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command for her alleged involvement in a string of robberies perpetrated by a notorious gang led by her lover.
The gang is suspected of carrying out a series of violent robberies in Benin City, including a high-profile attack on the Amagba community. Among their alleged crimes is the theft of an ATM machine, during which they reportedly coerced the owner into divulging their PIN and transferred ₦460,000 from the victim’s account.
Investigators traced the stolen funds to a bank account belonging to Samuel. Acting on this lead, police tracked her to a hotel in Delta State, where she was taken into custody. However, the alleged gang leader, her boyfriend, managed to evade arrest.
During questioning, Samuel admitted that the stolen money had been deposited into her account by her boyfriend. Further investigations revealed that she is the mother of four children, each fathered by different men, all of whom are reportedly wanted for various criminal activities.
Edo State Police Command spokesman, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed Samuel’s arrest, emphasizing that efforts are underway to apprehend the gang leader and other members still at large.
“We have made significant progress in dismantling this criminal network. The arrest of Ella Samuel provides critical insights into the gang’s operations, and we are intensifying our efforts to bring all culprits to justice,” Yamu stated.
The arrest has reignited concerns about the prevalence of organized crime in the region and the role of accomplices in facilitating such activities. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
