Abuja was thrown into a state of disbelief as a couple annulled their marriage just hours after their wedding ceremony, leaving friends and family stunned.
The revelation was made by Habibu Abubakar Wushishi, Director of Media and Strategy at the Niger State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, in a Facebook post on Sunday, December 29, 2024.
According to Wushishi, the couple tied the knot on Saturday, December 28, but ended their union by the following morning. The shocking turn of events was attributed to mutual dishonesty between the partners.
“A couple who got married yesterday have been divorced this morning. Reason: They both have been lying to each other; they made me waste my fuel to Gwagwalada for nothing,” Wushishi lamented in his post, which has since gone viral.
The announcement has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many expressing disbelief and speculating about the nature of the lies that unraveled the marriage so quickly. Others highlighted the emotional and financial toll such incidents could have on the couple and their loved ones.
While details about the specific reasons remain unclear, the incident has reignited conversations about the importance of honesty and compatibility in relationships, particularly before marriage.
As curiosity grows over the peculiar case, many have called for more understanding of the pressures modern couples face, especially in culturally significant unions like weddings in Nigeria.
