Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has addressed a recent social media frenzy, clarifying the circumstances surrounding a widely-circulated video.
The footage, which appeared to show Rooney allowing a mysterious woman into his apartment, sparked tabloid speculation about his personal life.
Since taking the coaching job at Plymouth, Rooney has been residing separately from his family, having made the deliberate decision not to relocate his sons from their established educational routines near the family’s long-standing home in Cheshire.
However, Rooney has set the record straight over the trending video. He explained that the video was actually recorded last summer and had been edited to misrepresent the events.
According to Rooney, the woman in the video was part of a couple who had kindly given him a ride home.
He added that his son, who was visiting at the time, was also present in the apartment.
Rooney expressed frustration that certain online publications had chosen to manipulate the footage, creating a false narrative about his actions.
The football legend said: “I am aware of a video circulating online. The video shows a man and woman looking around my apartment. The couple kindly gave me a lift home and were in there at the same time as my son who was visiting. Footage is from last summer. It is annoying that at least one online newspaper has chosen to edit the footage to make it appear as though the woman entered the apartment on her own. That is simply not true.”
