Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended a 27-year-old man, David Adediji, for allegedly breaking into a home and stealing valuables worth over ₦200,000 in the Okorowepo area of Idiroko.
The suspect, who is said to have a history of using iron tools to break into homes, reportedly gained entry into the residence of a female victim by damaging the iron security bars on her window. During the break-in, Adediji struck the victim on the head with an iron rod and made off with a Techno Spark phone valued at ₦150,000 and N52,000 in cash.
According to a statement from the Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the burglary occurred on December 31, 2024, around 10:00 pm, though it was not reported until the following evening, January 1, 2025. The victim, who sustained injuries to her back and legs during the attack, reported the crime to the police at approximately 7:00 pm.
Odutola confirmed that detectives from the Idiroko Division promptly responded, visiting the crime scene and launching an investigation that led to Adediji’s arrest. During questioning, the suspect confessed to the crime and admitted using an iron rod and a plank during the attack.
Items including the iron rod and a plank used in the assault were recovered as evidence. The police spokesperson emphasized that a preliminary investigation is ongoing, with Adediji expected to face prosecution once all necessary information is gathered.
The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
