Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a man, Akintoye Waris, for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a goat valued at N200,000 to celebrate his child’s naming ceremony.
The Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that Waris and his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf, were apprehended on Thursday by officers from the Odeda Police Division.
According to the police, the incident occurred on December 25, 2024, when the suspects allegedly invaded a farm in the Odeda area. They reportedly stole a he-goat while the farm owner, identified as Mark, had taken cattle out for grazing.
Upon discovering the goat missing, the farm owner initiated a search within the community. Witnesses claimed to have seen the suspects transporting a goat on a motorcycle, which led to their identification.
During police interrogation, the suspects admitted to the theft. They detailed how they stole the goat, transported it, and subsequently slaughtered it on December 27 to prepare food for the naming ceremony of Waris’s daughter in Olodo.
