A Toyota Highlander SUV caught fire following a collision on the Lekki-Epe Expressway on Thursday, tragically resulting in the driver's death.

Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the mid-day crash occurred after Okegun/Seaport, inward Epe.

The accident involved a Toyota Highlander Jeep (GGE 432 JC) and an empty Sino tipper truck.

Reports revealed the Highlander, travelling inward Ajah, lost control, veered across the expressway, and collided with the tipper truck heading toward Epe.

The collision caused the Highlander to catch fire, trapping the driver inside.

“Security operatives from the Epe Police Division provided essential support throughout the rescue and recovery operations, ensuring the safety and coordination of efforts at the scene,” Bakare-Oki stated.

He extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for divine strength to endure their loss.

Bakare-Oki urged motorists to prioritise road safety and maintain their vehicles to prevent avoidable tragedies.
