A multi-vehicle collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday morning left 11 people injured, according to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE). The accident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. near the Interchange section of the expressway.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, TRACE spokesperson, reported that the incident involved a Mazda bus, a Mack truck, and a Toyota Hiace bus. The crash took place close to the Cway Junction, just meters away from the Heyden filling station.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the Mack truck was attempting to turn into the premises of a private company when the speeding Mazda bus collided with it. Moments later, the Toyota Hiace bus, unable to avoid the crash, also lost control and became entangled in the collision.

“The driver of the Mack truck was maneuvering into the Cway company premises when the Mazda bus, which was traveling at excessive speed and showing a lack of patience, rammed into it,” Akinbiyi explained. “The Toyota Hiace bus subsequently lost control upon approaching the scene, adding to the pile-up.”

A total of 21 individuals were involved in the accident, comprising 12 men and nine women. Among them, 11 people sustained injuries, including eight men and three women. The injured were promptly transported to Idera Hospital in Shagamu by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel.

The vehicles implicated in the accident were identified as a Mazda bus with registration number SMK 554 YH, a Mack truck with registration number FNN 934 XA, and a Toyota Hiace bus bearing registration number KJA 995 XA.

Emergency responders, including TRACE officials, FRSC personnel, and police officers, swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and clear the roadway.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to speed limits and exercising patience on the road to prevent similar accidents in the future.
