The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man, Sherif Oyeniyi, for attacking a 27-year-old motorcyclist, Ahmed Owolabi, with a razor blade during a ride in the Arepo area of the state.
According to police spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred at about 4:15 PM on Saturday, January 11, 2025, near Orange Estate, Arepo. Owolabi, who sustained deep cuts on his neck, was rescued and rushed to the hospital by officers from the Warewa Divisional Police Station.
The suspect, Oyeniyi, reportedly attacked Owolabi without provocation as they neared his residence. During police interrogation, he confessed to visiting a voodoo doctor prior to the incident but claimed, “it was the devil’s handiwork,” when asked if the attack was related to any ritual or initiation.
Alani Muritala, the victim’s brother, reported the attack to the police after learning of the brutal assault. He stated that his brother had been transporting Oyeniyi as part of his commercial motorcycle business when the suspect suddenly inflicted the injuries.
Police confirmed that the suspect showed no remorse for his actions and has been taken into custody pending further investigation. The Divisional Crime Branch is handling the case, and authorities have assured that Oyeniyi will face prosecution once the investigation is complete.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of commercial motorcyclists in the state, prompting calls for enhanced measures to protect riders and ensure justice for victims of such unprovoked attacks.
