Residents Flee Benue Community as Kidnappers K!ll Prominent Farmer After Receiving N5.4m Ransom

The tragic news of the killing of Terzungwe Shaku, a prominent Benue farmer and businessman, after his family paid a ransom of ₦5.4 million, has thrown community residents into perpetual fear, as many flee their homes.

Shaku was abducted in Akor village, Nzorov Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, shortly before the New Year and was held hostage for over two weeks.

Initially, the kidnappers demanded ₦20 million for his release, but the family negotiated and paid ₦5.4 million.

Despite fulfilling the ransom demand, the kidnappers took Shaku's life, leaving his family and community in mourning.
 
It was learnt that residents of Akor and nearby villages in Nzorov Council Ward of Guma LGA have begun fleeing the area for fear of further attacks.
 
SA local further disclosed that the gunmen reportedly shot Shaku moments after his family left the drop-off point, stressing that upon hearing gunshots, the family rushed back to find his lifeless body.
 
A spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, said she did not yet have any information about the incident.
