
A Magistrate Court in Yenagoa has remanded a 35-year-old man, Susaine Morgan, over an alleged plot to assassinate the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, in Ekeremor Town, Bayelsa State
The court ordered Morgan’s detention at the Okaka Correctional Centre for 30 days following a request by Police Prosecutor ASP Stella Jerry-Friday to allow further investigations and apprehend six other suspects still at large.
Morgan faces charges of conspiracy, armed robbery, attempted kidnapping, and unlawful possession of firearms, according to suit number YMC/51C/2025.
Police reports state Morgan was arrested on January 1, 2025, at the minister’s residence, carrying a bag containing two AK-47 rifles. Security agents had received intelligence about armed individuals blending into the Yuletide crowd visiting the minister.
While Morgan was apprehended, the other suspects fled, later causing havoc in the community. They reportedly fired shots, robbed a filling station of ₦400,000, and escaped via a speedboat stolen from the town’s waterfront.
Authorities revealed that Morgan has provided “useful statements” identifying his accomplices, and efforts to capture the remaining suspects are ongoing.
