Tragedy struck the Oladesu family this week as Victoria Oladesu, a Nigerian grandmother, passed away shortly after arriving in the United Kingdom to meet her grandchild for the first time.
Mrs. Oladesu, who had traveled to the UK to celebrate a joyous family milestone, died on Tuesday, leaving her family and the Nigerian community in deep sorrow. She had intended to join her son, Hezekiah Oladesu, in commemorating his wife’s graduation and to spend cherished moments with her newly born grandchild.
The Nigerian community in the UK shared the heartbreaking news on Thursday via their social media platform, X (formerly Twitter). They described the incident as a devastating turn of events for a family that had been preparing for moments of happiness.
"Tragically, her life was cut short, and what was meant to be a time of happiness has turned into unimaginable grief," the community’s statement read.
In the aftermath of the loss, the family now faces the daunting task of repatriating Mrs. Oladesu's body to Nigeria for burial. To assist with the financial burden, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched, appealing to Nigerians and well-wishers to contribute.
The late grandmother’s remains are currently being held at the Hull Royal Infirmary Mortuary as her family and supporters work to arrange her final journey home.
This tragic incident has sparked an outpouring of sympathy and support from the Nigerian diaspora, who are rallying to support the Oladesu family in their time of grief.
