Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, has emphasized that spreading fake news is a criminal act with severe consequences.

He stated that such actions are not only illegal but also evil and destructive, posing threats to public trust and national security.

The Nigeria Police Force has launched a robust campaign against cyberbullying and the dissemination of fake news, aiming to preserve public trust and safeguard national security.

ACP Adejobi condemned the malicious spread of old content and misinformation across various online platforms, describing it as an attempt to undermine public confidence in the policing system and incite fear and discord within the country.

He highlighted that offenses related to fake news and cyberbullying are criminalized under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, and other existing criminal laws. These actions not only damage the reputation of the police force but also endanger societal stability and safety.
