The Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued His Royal Highness, Friday Ehizojie, the Onogie of Udo-Eguare, who was kidnapped on February 3.
The monarch, abducted while traveling on a commercial motorcycle between Ubiaja and Udo community in Igueben Local Government Area, was freed on Friday after an extensive search operation by security forces. Tragically, the motorcycle rider transporting him was shot dead during the attack.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, credited the rescue to a coordinated effort involving the police, local vigilantes, and hunters.
"The command is pleased to inform the public that our sustained search and rescue operations have yielded a positive result," Yamu stated.
He noted that Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, had vowed to ensure the monarch’s safe return, a promise that was fulfilled through relentless efforts. He also commended the support provided by Governor Monday Okpebholo, whose logistical assistance strengthened the rescue mission.
Yamu further appreciated the contributions of local security groups and assured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety.
