Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a drug trafficker attempting to smuggle heroin into Nigeria through Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
According to a statement released on Sunday by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the suspect, James Herbert Chinoso, 48, was apprehended on Saturday, February 1, 2025, upon arrival from Madagascar via Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airlines flight.
A routine body scan revealed that Chinoso had ingested illicit substances, prompting officials to place him under excretion observation. Over time, he expelled 63 wraps of heroin, with a total weight of 909 grams.
Further investigations showed that the suspect had traveled from Lagos to Madagascar on January 26, 2025, and returned a week later. During interrogation, Chinoso confessed that he resorted to drug trafficking after his phone accessories business in Liberia collapsed.
The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and ensuring that offenders face the full weight of the law.
