The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recovered 125 stolen manhole covers during an intelligence-led operation.
The command stated that the latest recovery took place on February 4, 2025, in the Dei-Dei area, where officers found the stolen items concealed in a pit.
The police credited the breakthrough to a tip-off from a vigilant informant. They emphasised the importance of public cooperation in combating crime.
SP Josephine Adeh, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating infrastructure theft in a statement released on Sunday.
She cited the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, as stating: “We will not relent in our search for stolen public assets.
“Our operatives are intensifying efforts to locate and dismantle illegal warehouses and storage sites where vandals may be stockpiling stolen infrastructure. The FCT must be free from the grip of these criminal elements.”
The operation comes after a breakthrough in the previous week when the command, in partnership with the Joint Task Force established by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, intercepted and recovered vandalised public infrastructure.
Disu praised residents for their ongoing support and urged them to stay vigilant, emphasising that safeguarding public assets is a collective responsibility.
The command further urged residents to report any suspicious activity through the designated emergency contact numbers.
