Residents of Maru community in Zamfara State on Thursday morning blocked major roads leading to Gusau, the state capital, and Sokoto in protest over a recent surge in bandit activities in the area.
Angry residents, mostly youths, barricaded the road, restricting vehicular movement on the ever-busy highway.
Although the protest reportedly lasted for about seven hours, troops of the Nigerian Army later restored normalcy.
Reports said the military assured residents of enhanced security measures in the area before reopening the road for travellers.
Efforts to reach the Zamfara State Police Command proved abortive, as the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, did not take his calls.
