The Nigerian Navy has intensified its crackdown on drug smuggling, intercepting multiple illicit operations in Lagos State.

In a statement released on its official Facebook page on Friday, the Navy disclosed that personnel from the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT Quick Response Team (QRT) carried out a series of arrests and seizures between February 10 and 11, 2025.

According to the statement, on Monday, February 10, the QRT stationed at Tarkwa Bay intercepted a large wooden boat en route to Benin Republic. The vessel was carrying seven suspects along with 408 empty drums, three pumping machines, and eight Yamaha 40HP outboard engines.

Further intensifying their operations, naval forces apprehended two individuals attempting to smuggle cannabis sativa around the Topo-Badagry axis on the same day.

The following day, Tuesday, February 11, another significant haul was made as the Navy intercepted 28 bags of cannabis sativa, weighing over 756kg, at Long Jetty, Ibeche Beach.

All suspects and confiscated items have since been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and potential prosecution, in line with the Nigerian Navy’s Standard Operating Procedure.

The operation underscores the Navy’s commitment to tackling drug smuggling and ensuring maritime security along Nigeria’s coastal waters.
