
A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Cornelius Manzak Damulak, who was abducted from his residence in Abuja, has regained his freedom after escaping from his captors.
Rev. Damulak, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Shendam, Plateau State, and a student of Veritas University, Abuja, was kidnapped in the early hours of Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Zuma in the Bwari Area Council.
According to a statement by the Niger State Police Command on Friday, February 14, the priest was found wandering along the Pogo-Paiko highway in Minna after managing to flee from his abductors.
“On February 14, 2025, at about 12 noon, a suspected kidnapped victim was found roaming around Pogo-Paiko highway by a police patrol team attached to Chanchaga Division. He was immediately rescued and taken into protective custody,” the police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said.
The statement further revealed that the priest had been moved from one forest hideout to another during his captivity before he managed to escape on February 13 after trekking a long distance.
Rev. Damulak was taken to a hospital for medical attention while efforts are ongoing to reunite him with his family. The police have assured that investigations are underway to track down those responsible for the abduction.
